Note : If you have a previously
installed version of BarSim on your
computer you will need to uninstall that
version and restart your computer prior
to installing the new copy of BarSim.
Failure to do so could result in various
errors.
Game Objective :
The objective of BarSim is to score
enough points to progress through the
rounds. During main gameplay points will
be accrued by meeting time, minimum
number of drink and accuracy goals. If
you do not score the minimum round goal
of points, you will not progress to the
next round. Each round becomes
progressively more difficult. Each round
has a maximum number of drinks allowed,
therefore accuracy and speed are crucial
to progressing to further rounds.
Making Drinks :
Beverage Production Area :
The BEVERAGE PRODUCTION AREA is
where all drink making activity occurs.
It is located directly under the glass
rack. It is divided into 3 drink slot
areas. Each DRINK SLOT is assigned a
drink from the DRINK TICKET, and must be
made in that DRINK SLOT.
Getting Started :
The first step of making a drink is
always knowing the RECIPE. If you don't
know the RECIPE you must use the RECIPE
BOOK. The second step is selecting your
glassware. You select a glass as you do
all ingredients in BarSim, which is by
clicking on it. You then take the glass
to the BEVERAGE PRODUCTION AREA. Follow
the RECIPE, GARNISH and SELL the drink.
Using and Portioning Ingredients :
All ingredients are accessed simply
by clicking on them. A pop up menu will
appear if there are available sub-items
for you to choose from. When you click
the bottle in the DRINK SLOT you wish to
use the ingredient in, a pop up menu
will appear and you will be able to
select the amount you wish to use.
Accessing Sub-Ingredients :
All liquor bottles used in BarSim
are generic brands. To access a call
brand, such as Absolut, click on the
Vodka bottle and a list of SUB-BRANDS
will pop-up for you to choose from.
Select which brand you want to use and
click again. The GENERAL bottle
functions in the same manner, as do
various other ingredients such as the
soda gun, coffee pot etc.
Dumping Drinks :
To dump a drink (start over on that
particular drink) simply press the DUMP
DRINK button (picture of a toilet)
located on the right side of the
beverage production area. Points will be
deducted for using the DUMP DRINK
button.
Garnishing Drinks :
GARNISHING DRINKS occurs in the
garnish drink form. Click on the GARNISH
DRINK button, located to the right of
the BEVERAGE PRODUCTION AREA and select
the appropriate garnishes. Next, you
have three options: Sell: Sell the drink
(complete); Exit: Exit the garnish form;
Clear: Clear the garnish form.
Selling Drinks :
To SELL a drink (this just means
that the drink is done) click on the
SELL DRINK button located on the left
hand side of the BEVERAGE PRODUCTION
AREA (it's the button with the green
thistle glass on it), or click sell from
the garnish form.
Using Tools :
Shaker Tin :
To use the SHAKER TIN click on the
SHAKER TIN and select either
"Shaker Tin" or "Short
Shake" from the options list
("Shaker Tin" will allow you
to shake and strain your drink, while
"Short Shake" simply shakes
the drink in the current glass without
straining). Take the SHAKER TIN to the
desired drink slot and click again. If
you are simply doing a "Short
Shake" no other action is required.
If you are using the "Shaker
Tin" follow the recipe. When
finished adding ingredients to the
SHAKER TIN click on the shaker tin and
select either "Shake and
strain" or "Strain" from
the list ("Strain" will not
shake the ingredients, only strain them
into the glass).
Blender :
To use the BLENDER, simply click one
of the blenders and place it in the
BEVERAGE PRODUCTION AREA, follow the
recipe, click on the BLENDER again and
put it back on its base (where it
originally was). The BLENDER will
automatically blend your drink and pour
it into the glass for you.
Muddler and Spoon :
To use the MUDDLER click on it and
take it to the BEVERAGE PRODUCTION AREA
and click on the drink you wish to
MUDDLE.
If the recipe calls for a drink to be
STIRRED click on the SPOON and take it
to the BEVERAGE PRODUCTION AREA and
click on the drink you want to STIR.
Salt/Sugar Rimmer :
To use the SALT/SUGAR RIMMER select
the glassware you wish to use, take it
over to the SALT/SUGAR RIMMER and click
on it. A menu will appear giving you the
option of either Salt Rim or Sugar Rim.
Select which one you want to use and
take the glassware to the appropriate
drink slot. Your glass will now be
rimmed with Salt or Sugar.
Ice Cream Machine :
To use the ICE CREAM MACHINE click
on the BLENDER and set it down in front
of the ICE CREAM MACHINE. Select the
amount of ice cream you wish to dispense
from the list. The ice cream will
dispense and the BLENDER will be
automatically taken to the BEVERAGE
PRODUCTION AREA.
Scoring :
You score points by making drinks.
Drinks are scored on; accuracy, time,
glassware, production technique,
ingredients, amounts, garnish, and order
in which ingredients are used (if
applicable). Each drink starts out with
a value of 500 points. Use of the recipe
book will incur a 50% point deduction
for the drink it was used for. Bonus
points can be earned in various ways,
but you need to find those out yourself!
Round Summary :
After each regular and practice
round you will be taken to a ROUND
SUMMARY SCREEN which gives details of
your round performance. You will also be
able to scroll through every drink you
made and compare what you put in each
drink versus what the actual recipe is.
When finished, simply click exit.
Note: Drinks marked with * indicate
accuracy has been reduced by 50% due to
use of recipe book.
Extras :
Practice Mode :
PRACTICE MODE allows you to select
from the list of all available drink
recipes which drinks you wish to
practice with. Select the recipes you
wish to use, and practice mode will
randomly "print" them on
tickets for you. After you've completed
12 tickets, or choose to exit gameplay,
you will be taken to a round summary
screen to see how you did.
Recipe Editor :
The RECIPE EDITOR is not directly
accessible from the main BarSim
application. You can access the RECIPE
EDITOR from the BarSim group of your
computer's program list. The RECIPE
EDITOR will allow you to browse, print,
add, delete and modify recipes that are
used within BarSim.
Note : Any modifications made to
recipes in the "Recipe Editor"
will be reflected in the main BarSim
recipe database. Therefore, please use
caution when making changes.
